How Much More Can Kirkwood, MO Take?

Sitting in the recliner aka second skin reading when they broke into local news last night and said that a man who has had a long standing disagreement with the City Council in Kirkwood killed a police officer outside of City Hall who was walking over to Imo's Pizza to pick up supper for him and his fellow officers on duty, then walked into the City Hall council chambers and killed another policeman, 3 council members and shot the mayor and a newspaper reported before police were able to kill the gunman. The mayor is in critical condition with a gunshot wound to the head.

You might have heard of Kirkville, MO in the past couple of years as another officer was slain in 2005 and Imo's Pizza was the employer of Michael Devlin, the guy who kidnapped and sexually traumatized a boy 4 years ago and kidnapped another one a year ago from his bus stop and when they found the second child 5 days later, the first child was there as well and they recovered both boys.

Kirkville is about 20 miles southwest of St. Louis. I was there as a child but not since I've moved back. It's one of those towns like Cheers where everyone knows your name. I felt so bad for the local TV stations covering this story last night because many of them lived in Kirkville and they were reporting the deaths of not only leaders in their community but their close friends and it was hard to keep the emotions together to do objective reporting.

Keep Kirkwood in your thoughts and prayers please.

It's one thing to hear about things on the news but one never thinks it will happen in their town. The people of Kirkwood have pulled together with prayer vigils, memorials and the like. Everyone is taking care of everyone else in need and police from all over are coming to Kirkwood as early as last night to pay their condolences and help any way they can.

Also while you're thinking good thoughts or praying, please keep Fenway Twomey in your prayers. She's in a lot of pain right now with her neck and her family would appreciate the thoughts. Fenway is the dachsie-child of Hallie at Wonderful World of Wieners.

Thanks everyone.

Today finds me not working and after I catch up with my blog friends, I'm going to work on the quilt. I got all the butterflies bonded and cut out yesterday so they can be appliqued on. I will have another installment of the quilt on here on Sunday.

Michael is coming up tonight for the weekend. He knows it's been a rough week for Mom and I need to connect and spoil my son. He graduates THREE months from tomorrow and is commissioned the next day. Where has the time gone? He got info in the mail yesterday about ordering grad invites, save the date cards, cap and gown, etc. and we're celebrating this occasion in a big way because we can!!! Honestly, I didn't think I would be around for it and we were told that due to his learning disability he was not college bound material at all. And...it looks like he will be graduating WITH HONORS! So Mom will have a field day ordering grad stuff this weekend.

I want each and every one of you to know how much you mean to me and please do something for yourselves this weekend...retail therapy, a walk, a movie, a book, coffee with a friend. I used to never take time out to do that kind of stuff for me because I didn't think I had the time or was worth the effort.

Look in your mirror and say it LOUD and say it PROUD, "I am SO worth doing something nice for me!"

And I'm gonna expect reports on Monday what you did for you.

But you knew that.

Take care.

I'm so glad you didn't say:

Look in your mirror and say it LOUD and say it PROUD, "I must, I must, I must increase my bust!" I was going to look pretty silly here at work doing that!

I think Fenway stress is causing me to lose my mind. That may explain the above part of this comment.

Thanks for adding my little girl to your prayers...and the candle? it worked for Shmoops so I just KNOW it will work for Fen!

Good thing you came back and fixed that gender issue...Fenway was one borken AND pissed wiener!! SHE, say it with me, SHE, was very hurt that you couldn't tell that she is all lady.

I think she was well on her way to an incorrect gender comment induced depression.

You may have prevented it from getting really bad. I'll keep you posted. (and I may send you the bill for her therapy)

I found your blog through Hallie. You sound like an amazing woman!

I'd like to help with your link challenged problem, but I can't find an email address anywhere here. I can't really give you the instructions in the comments either because it will create a link that won't help you at all. Email me at orkmommy@gmail.com and I'll give you a few simple instructions to make links in your posts.

p.s. I work in the web development world. Just in case you were wondering about my qualifications. :-)

Well, you know I don't live in Kirkwood, but I'm close enough that this hits home. BBM works with the son of the mayor, and was on the phone much of last night. So many problems with the world...and no ideas how to fix them (at least not feasible ones).

I'm looking so forward to your Sunday edition! I can't wait to see the work in progress!

Congrats to Michael! How exciting is that?!?! What an amazing guy, being able to break through all expectations of him, and an amazing mom, being there for him (like you are for all your family and friends too!). I hope you all have a tremedous celebratory weekend!

What a sad situation. I'm kind of glad that we live out in the boonies. The closest we get to mayhem around here is during the times (like last summer) when hubby's co-worker decided to slaughter his mother, father, and brother, then come in to work like he was grieving for his family. His employer & co-workers grieved with him, then were utterly disgusted when they found out not even 3 days later that the guy was arrested for the murders. The evidence against him was stacked sky high.

It would be nice to live in a world free of violence. It makes me wonder what goes through someone's mind when they start thinking they can end someone else's life without giving it a second thought.

Wishes to you and yours!
