DachshundStrong Uncut-Part 2

I have to preface this by saying that the last 3 weeks have been mental hell in my life.  A lot of things going on as well as unable to afford my meds.  My normal(?) frame of mind has not been in the building.

I finally figured out the other day the reason why I don't retain history like most people do.

It's because I know where to go when I need to know.

Like, take WW II for example...

If I need to know something about it, I bring up Google and it's at my fingertips.

So I make it a habit not to listen to or retain info on history or politics.

Mostly politics because I don't like controversy.

Enter the discussions on the Islam/911 building situation.

It has been all over the news.
(My husband is a CNN/MSNBC news person.  Since Michael deployed, I limit my news to local)

Even while knitting I have heard bits and pieces about Islam wanting to build a monument within 2 blocks of the 911 site.

And I gather there's oppostion.

Herein lies my rub.

We have unemployment, people uninsured, people who need food, shelter, medicine and those are besides the ones on the street(present company included), cures for cancer, lupus, MS and a whole bunch of other things not to mention better schools, better care for the elderly and the list goes on and we're taking the time and effort to disagree over if someone should have a monument near the 911 site?

Isn't there room for us all to grieve and have a monument?

Again, with reference to my nonretention of history, and since this is my blog, I can say this.

Ahem.

I refer to it as the one bad apple don't spoil the whole bunch.

And don't hold me to proper terms here.

Again, my blog and it's not up for grading.

But it is my understanding that the reason against the Islam monument is because Islam terrorist/nationalists(Michael, I need your brain right now) were responsible for 911.

So it would be a smack in the face and disrespect to those who were killed/injured in 911 to have the "enemy" have a monument near 911.

I guess I'm just pretty simple.

But I don't blame gun holders in the city where the Columbine massacre occurred.

Not everyone with a gun commits mass murders.

And it is my understanding that Islam people lost their relatives in 911 as well.

So we punish the Islam survivors by not allowing them to have a monument to honor their people lost in 911?

How narrow minded are we becoming?

Do I have a problem with the Islam monument?

No, I don't.

But I do have a problem with people's efforts focusing on it when we have so many problems right here, right now in this country that we should be focused on.

So I have been pretty down about the whole Islam monument controversy.

Thinking that my beloved USA has lost its focus of our ancestors who held barn raisings and shared their cow with their neighbor and their neighbor was anyone in need and it was simply enough that someone needed something and they had it to share, so they shared it.

So as a diversion, I began flipping through the channels to find a movie that would allow me to escape my mind for a while.

I've always loved musicals.

So when I saw that Hairspray was going to be on and I had never seen it(Michael reminds me that I watched a piece of it in 2008 but I do not remember.  God bless memory killing radioactive iodine cancer treatments) and decided to record it.

I watched it Sunday morning.

No clue beforehand what it was about except it was a musical and I LOVE musicals and music and felt it would be a good way to escape for a while.

As I got into the story and saw discrimination of fat people, I could identify because I am fat.  But I have crossed that hurdle and am at peace with it.

Then it got to the black and white discrimination issue.

I grew up during that.

And remember we conquered it.

That gave me hope.

Those actors on Hairspray were performing what I wanted to see on my Real Life TV set....accepting each other, getting along and working for the common good.

By the time the movie was over, I felt hope again.

If discrimination could be dealt with once, it could be dealt with again.

So I'm counting on a compromise with the Islam monument situation.

People working together to find a solution.

I thoroughly respect the right of others not to agree with me and if you feel the need to storm my inbox with your objections, go for it.

It's what America is all about.

But at the end of the day I will love you just the same.

Why can't we all just get along?

Well said Ness. Why oh why must it always come to lumping everyone of a different faith, color, size, disability/ability, political view, etc. together in order to separate us further...

As I walk through
This wicked world
Searchin' for light in the darkness of insanity.

I ask myself
Is all hope lost?
Is there only pain and hatred, and misery?

And each time I feel like this inside,
There's one thing I wanna know:
What's so funny 'bout peace love & understanding? ~Nick Lowe

I made the point to another person - the World Trade Center was a major financial center, as far as I know the new building will be a major financial center, and it IS being built on ground zero - so I guess if your God is Money, its OK to build its temple on the bones of martyrs, but to actually build a building for devout religious followers near the location for any purpose other than making money seems to be immoral. Are we all going crazy listening to people who have hidden agendas for personal gain to the point where we have lost our critical thinking skills!

Love this post, but sad about you not having enough meds... have you tried your drug manufacturers to help with your med shortage? There should be local groups in your area that help also - and some pharmacies will work with them....

This is an example of what is wrong with our priorities in this world.

well said Ness!! I think American Islams should be able to build whatever they want wherever they want.

We didnt restrict where white american christians could build churches after the Oklahoma City bombing, why are we worried about doing it now???

Ummm....as long as they do not have an ulterior motive for building the mosque near Ground Zero.

I personally think it's a slap in the face, but that's just my opinion. I am trusting, however, I do not want to go so far as to blindly trust and let terrorism freely into the country. Who knows?

If it's legit and free of hate, then I'm all for it.

I'm sorry about the meds too hon. I hope you can find help soon ♥
