Medial Cuneiform Fracture of the Left Foot

Medical Day started off with a 9:45 a.m. visit to the podiatrist to check out Roger's bone spur.

Well...he does have a bone spur, but it is in the back of his heel and behaving itself.

However, when re-doing the x-rays it was discovered that he has a medial cuneiform fracture of the left foot. That is why his foot is swollen up like a football.

Basically there are 3 wedge-shaped bones in the top of the foot. He fracture the middle one. Not only is it fractured but a chip has come off it and is totally separate from the bone.

THE HOSPITAL RADIOLOGIST MISSED THIS ON THE X-RAY BEFORE WE LEFT FOR BUFFALO SO THE MAN HAS BEEN WALKING AROUND ON A BROKEN FOOT FOR 3 WEEKS!

He is now Ace-wrapped and in a black Velcroed boot apparatus and is to keep the foot elevated and stay off of it. He goes back in 3 weeks for x-rays to check progress.

The cuneiform bones do not have a good blood supply that go to them because of their location and dependent upon age(he's 72) it may not heal and then surgery would be involved.

The podiatrist seems to think he did it getting out of the tricked out red truck.

I had to leave him at the podiatrist getting his foot wrapped/booted because KJ had an 11:30 neuro apt.

She is no better so the spinal tap has been scheduled for 1 p.m. on Wednesday. She has to get blood work tomorrow.

Michael is now listed as a Lieutenant but is awaiting word today on whether they can cut him emergency pay and if he can pick it up in Springfield.

Outside of that, it is a beautiful day in the neighborhood...

Ness,

So sorry to hear about poor Roger! I cannot believe that they missed the fracture on the first x-ray! You guys have the worst luck with the medical community. I pray that his foot is able to heal on it's own.

It's always something, isn't it?

Hugs,
Deb

Tell Roger I'll come and sit on him if he doesn't stay off his leg. I may have lost 6 pounds on Atkins so far but I STILL have enough to mildly squish him!

Awww, man! Roger, you poor guy! I just don't understand how they miss that type of stuff on x-rays. The same thing happened to me with the knee that needed to be replaced; the upside was, at least it wasn't the lupus that stupid doctor scared me out of my mind with!

And KJ...how much pain is one person supposed to handle? Ness, I'm not even going to bug you about your own deals with all that is going on right now.

Hugs, prayers & love!

Gosh Ness, I've haven't visited in awhile and oh my have you had troubles! You must have the strength of an Army going on there and I'm amazed at how calmly you handle things.

No excuse for Roger's misdiagnosis! Good grief! I hope he stays put and heals quickly :)

My thoughts and prayers will be with you guys!

I am so sorry to hear Roger's foot is broke. Give him our love. I am kind of out of the loop alittle, as my laptop broke for sure and is in the shop, so I have to borrow David's computer till I can get it out.

How are you doing? Never have seen if you are ok, with the thyroid and all. Ness, I worry!!

Sounds like your plate is full!! Wish I had some spoons to give you, but I am out and in the minus myself.

God Bless~
Debbie
