Tuesday KJ Update

KJ had surgery about 3 p.m. on Monday. They placed a pressure shunt in her spine, snaked it around her side and into her abdomen for drainage so she has 3 incisions. It is all under the skin. They likened the pain she will have to someone who was liposuctioned or rotor rooted. They put her on a Morphine PCA pump to distribute the medicine when she needed it(of course it is titrated so she can't press it 20 times consecutively and get Morphine). I just got a call that she is running a temp and they think her central line is infected so I am going back up to the hospital shortly.

The surgeon said after 48 hours of antibiotics if everything went well, she could go home. I'm not taking her home until pain is under control and she is fever free. The pump could take up to a week to start relieving her headaches.

Needless to say, we won't be making the Georgia trip this weekend and it makes me sad, but my heart would be here even if I went and it's just not possible at this time both financially and needing to be with my daughter. I know you will understand and we will try it again some time.

Michael was the first face Kiereney saw when she came out of Recovery and Michael, being Michael, had bought her a bear and a vase of beautiful pink carnations. Is that guy gonna be a great husband or what some day?

I am keepin' on keepin' on by the prayers of my friends and the grace of God. The world I live in now seems surreal....I can't keep up with what date it is or what is going on in the outer world. It is measured by when the next pain med is due for Kiereney and what the last set of vital signs were. I don't like leaving her side. I feel like Malyn in Steel Magnolias. I have to be there for my Kiereney Jo.

Thank you so much for your continued thoughts and prayers. They mean the world to our family.

We're specifically praying today that the central line is not infected and does not have to be pulled for KJ has lousy veins that blow and the central line is the best way to do her blood draws and give her the meds she needs.

Prayers are continuing for Kierney and for you too Ness. I am a huge advocate of PICC lines over central lines. cant they put in a PICC?

Prayers still coming from out here in Denver! Ness, I have taken the liberty of copying/pasting this post to send a message to update the Circle, so that they know about KJo's surgery and the current status. This saves you a little bit of trouble/time. Hugs to you!

Ness,

I'm with Alice, we will be here whenever you want/can to come. Still praying like crazy for KJ, especially now for her central line.

You know how to get me if you need to talk or vent. Please let me know if there is anything I can do.

I hope that central line holds out for her and she is pain-free ASAP.
